As an Ophthalmologist he managed to gain recognition and success being Director of Minas Gerais Eye Hospital (www.Holhos.com.br) and, since 1984, in this position, his contribution in new techniques, equipment’s, devices and above all else innovation in eye surgery and clinic made him become internationally famous.

More than 30 of LAPAN’s major Vision Neurosciences research projects are applied to ophthalmology, neurology and education, which results in more than 15 Master and Ph.D thesis that have been already developed by LAPAN and approved by UFMG and other major universities.

As an Educator, Dr. Ricardo Guimarães led the FASEH Medical School (www.Faseh.edu.br)  into a project of modernization and innovation transforming this specific institution in one of the best Medical Schools of the country. Faseh is considered the very best Medical School of the state of Minas Gerais and has received the maximum score (grade 5) from the Federal Education Department in Brazil last year.
